Bethlehems kinds of outreach beyond our church walls include Global Outreach, or missions; Neighborhood Outreach, contextualized for each of our three campuses; and Church Planting, both locally and nationally.

Global Outreach

Our global ministries exist to reach all tribes, tongues, peoples, and nations through delighting in and declaring the glory of Jesus Christ. Our aim is to nurture and train many to become zealous goers and to involve and educate all others to be zealous senders.

We have 14 Driving Convictions Behind Foreign Missions (Global Outreach) that shape how we aim to shepherd and equip those who feel called to go to the nations in a long-term capacity and how we provide opportunities for others to go in a short-term capacity. Currently we have over 200 adults and more than 200 children (about 115 families and singles) serving in about 45 countries.

Pray & Connect

We encourage everyone to pray for our global partners—prayer is one of the most important aspects of global outreach!

  • Pray for our “Global Partner of the Week” using prayer requests shared in the Worship Folder at the weekend services.
  • Pick up a Global Partner Prayer Calendar at the Welcome Desk to pray for all of our global partners.
  • Contact our global partners directly to receive prayer updates and newsletters from them. If you do write to our global partners, read through our guidelines for missions communication.

Women in Missions

Women are invited to attend monthly meetings (September–May) to pray for and hear updates from our global partners.

Global Diaconate

This team supports—physically, financially, and prayerfully—global mercy ministries among the suffering and poor around the globe.

Global Outreach (GO) Teams

Three campus-specific groups assist the elders in preparing, sending, and caring for our global partners. Each team meets to hear from global partners on home assignment or to evaluate prospective partners who have completed the Nurture Program. Members of our GO teams have a heart for supporting global partners in a significant way and have had cross-cultural experience themselves.

Nurture Program

This training program is for those who seek to be sent out by Bethlehem as global partners. We aim to help develop each individual’s character, knowledge, and skills through various classes, seminars, reading assignments, and participation in the life of the church.

The three levels of the Nurture Program, which together take approximately two years to complete, includes:

  • Level 1ensure relational connection and engagement in the life of discipleship at Bethlehem.
  • Level 2equip with knowledge, character, and skills for cross-cultural service.
  • Level 3connect each participant with a solid missions agency and the necessary support mechanisms for a life of cross-cultural ministry.

To learn more, come to an upcoming Nurture Program Orientation or contact Nick Whitehead (612-338-7653 x433).

Barnabas Teams

A Barnabas Team is a small group of 6–12 committed people who come together to care for a global partner or global partner family. The support and encouragement takes a variety of forms as they strive to help meet physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. It is a group of people with whom the global partner can be open and honest, allowing them to see his or her needs and to share in successes and defeats. If you are interested in joining a Barnabas Team, contact the Global Outreach department.

Ministry Trips

The short-term Ministry Trip experience is an excellent opportunity to participate in global outreach and grow as a follower of Christ with a heart for the nations.

  • Ministry Trip teams serve global partners and national ministries in a variety of ways
  • Club 4th Ministry Teams serve global partner children at missions conferences
  • Individual Trips are tailor-made ministry trips for Bethlehem members

Neighborhood Outreach

Outreach in our local community is expressed in unique efforts at each campus. Outreach Ministries typically works with our ministries, church family, and CityJoy (formerly Bethlehem Ministry Initiatives) to plan and implement local outreach strategies. We aim for the Bethlehem family to be growing in love for unbelieving neighbors, friends, and family and growing in competency to communicate the gospel and their own salvation story.

Church Planting

Church planting and church revitalization is one of Bethlehems key outreach strategies. We aim to plant healthy, independent, God-centered churches that are a seedbed for spreading our vision. A vision to plant churches that …

Church Planting Residency

Our residency is a one-year, full-time experience on one of our three Bethlehem Baptist Church campuses in the Twin Cities. Each resident will be part of a campus pastoral team through which his gifts can be utilized, including pastoral care, teaching, and preaching. Bethlehem Baptist will provide the resident an annual stipend of $25,000. Each resident is required to raise at least an additional $30,000 more for a total residency salary package approved by our Human Resources team.

Revitalization: Jumpstart

The Jumpstart Program is designed to assist plateaued or declining churches. We provide the church with a qualified new pastor; ongoing training, supervision, and accountability and shepherding through a process of establishing a revitalized vision and strategy to return to fruitful ministry.

Treasuring Christ Together Network

Our church plants have no organizational tie to Bethlehem, but they do meet regularly in the Treasuring Christ Together Network for mutual encouragement. They voluntarily affiliate with groups such as Converge Worldwide, the Southern Baptism Convention, and the Acts 29 Network.
