Mercy & Service Ministries, Neighborhood Outreach South

Opportunities abound in our South Campus context to reach out in our community through mercy and service ministries.

Mercy & Service

The C.H.A.P. Store (Care, Help, And Provide)
This store sells household items, toys, and books, and also has an emergency food shelf for those in need. Staff and volunteers pray for people who come in seeking spiritual advice. Learn more.

  • Ongoing Volunteers: Once a week for 2+ hrs, volunteers clean items, tag clothes, and restock the store.
  • Food Line (Tues, Fri & Sat, 8am–Noon): Prep food, 8–9:30am; Chapel, 9:30–9:55am; Food Line opens at 10am. Those coming in for food are encouraged to join us for chapel. After receiving their food, people can sit and chat. Teams of up to 10 can volunteer as a group.
  • Chapel: Join the staff for chapel at 9:30–9:55am.

360 Communities/Lewis House

360 Communities: Shift hours for either of the following roles: 8:30am–12:30pm & 12:30–4pm.

  • Front Desk Greeter
  • Food Shelf Workers
  • Process/stock incoming food, or walk through with a family and help them “shop.”
  • Tutor

The Lewis House: More than 78,000 survivors of domestic violence have benefited from the support and advocacy services from the Lewis House since it opened in 1979. Annually, 3,000 women and children receive help from trained advocates who offer emotional support, safety planning, referrals to community resources, and help in navigating the court system. To volunteer, contact Alissa Roepke

  • Shelter Workers: These four-hour shifts require training. Contact the Lewis House for more information.
  • Childcare: These shifts (1–4 hours) can be held by anyone 16 years and older. (Childcare is needed so that the mothers can have meetings with their advocates.)
  • Room Makeover: Room turnover is so frequent that staff hardly have time to vacuum and dust. For a “makeover,” a group comes to clean the carpets, deep clean furniture, and paint.
  • Annual Fall Cleanup: Youth groups or small groups can sign up to tidy the lawn and flowerbeds.
  • Dinner: A group can make/bring dinner. (Not a “mingling” time but a chance to bless residents.)
